The Washougal School District has released its proposed budget for the 2021-22 school year.

Investments use taxpayer-supported levy dollars and money from United States Department of Education’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund to continue “vital” services and programs, according to a news release.

“These funds will support innovative student learning experiences, such as the launch of the new dual language program, the new transitional kindergarten program and the continuation of the Washougal Learning Academy, which provides flexible, family-friendly learning opportunities to meet the needs of our learners,” the news release states.

The $52 million budget “uses a conservative enrollment forecast and keeps the focus on improving student achievement and investing in attracting and retaining excellent staff to serve our families,” according to the news release.

The budget includes investments in accelerated programming, modern curriculums, career and technical education, fine arts, the district’s one-to-one technology initiative, staff development, facility maintenance, enhanced summer learning opportunities, outreach to Spanish-speaking families, free Advanced Placement and SAT exams for all students, and free meals for students.

“These planned investments support all students achieving their full academic and social potential,” according to the news release. “All of this is done with a focus on maximizing resources, being fiscally responsible and emphasizing that every dollar matters.”

The Washougal School Board will vote to adopt the budget, which is available for viewing on the district’s website, during its meeting on Aug. 24.
