The Washougal School District’s new facilities, maintenance and grounds supervisor is leading an effort to prepare school grounds for the 2021-22 school year.

“We identified our top priorities to have completed before school begins,”Jessica Beehner said in a news release. “We had three days and we are working as a team to get it done.”

Beehner and her team members have worked on school entrances to give them more of a “welcoming” look. They’ve also completed safety checks, installed new classroom equipment and laid down new layers of wood chips on the playgrounds.

“We are spreading 130 yards of chips,” Beehner said. “And since we are using our own vehicle and driver for delivery, we were able to get 25 yards more chips for our budget.”

Beehner, a Washougal resident, joined the district in mid-July after holding a similar position at the Camas School District. She’s joined on the district’s maintenance team by Jerry Adams, Wade Bork, Rob Dinnel and Al Seaman.
